The primary objective is to assure delivery of comprehensive, safe, cost-effective and appropriate nursing care for patients across the age continuum (4 weeks through geriatric), in accordance with established policies, nursing practice standards, and the Association of Operating Room Nurses. This position should develop excellent working relationships with hospital staff and accept guidance and constructive advice to improve performance. Candidates must have the ability to be flexible and positively accept new responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Provide individualized nursing care to the surgical patient, demonstrating an extensive knowledge base to support a variety of single and multi-system illnesses and/or injuries. The RN coordinates a safe plan of care within the surgical suite in accordance with standards of practice and hospital policies.
- Apply age-specific standards, policies, and procedures for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including medication administration and care during analgesia, conscious sedation, or anesthesia.
- Incorporate cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care; collaborate with patient/family and demonstrate competency in nursing practice.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
- Maintain patient safety by prioritizing tasks amidst interruptions and ensuring thorough documentation.
- Document patient care in the medical record according to established standards.
- Participate in Universal Protocol and time-out procedures for every procedure.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (surgeons, PAs, anesthesia providers, SPD, Radiology, and OR staff) to plan and deliver optimal patient outcomes; advocate for patients throughout the perioperative experience.
- Engage in performance improvement activities, data collection/analysis, and development of patient care delivery systems, standards, policies, and problem-solving initiatives.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing;
Associate's degree required; BSN preferred - Current RN license in North Carolina or compact multi-state license
- BLS from AHA or ARC required upon hire
- ACLS & PALS from AHA or ARC preferred; must obtain if not active within 6 months of hire
- CNOR Certification strongly preferred
- Familiar with instruments and equipment related to Perioperative Nursing
- Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity in handling instruments
