American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and prior travel nursing experience.
Details- Work in an LDRP unit providing couplet care to mother/baby patients
- Facility delivers approximately 800 births per year
- Patient ratio of 1:4 for couplet care (mom/baby)
- Night shift, 3x12 hours, , with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks available
- Required to work every other weekend
- Required to work 2 mandatory call shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to assist other units, not for direct assignments
- Uses Epic for charting, Pyxis for medication administration, and SBAR for communication
- Self-scheduling utilized for this unit
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required; pending licensure acceptable for consideration
- Current certifications: BLS, AWHONN, and NRP required
- ACLS and AWHONN Advanced certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Skills required:
LDRP, Mother/Baby care, sterile speculum exam assistance (effacement, dilation, station, presentation), External and Internal Fetal Monitoring, recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, breastfeeding/lactation support, and circulating for C-sections - Community hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Provide couplet care nursing to mother/baby patients in an LDRP setting
- Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum extraction and hemorrhage/shock management
- Support antepartum care including NST, sterile vaginal exams, and obstetrical triage
- Provide newborn care including APGAR scoring, cord care, discharge teaching, and thermoregulation
- Support postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum checks and Cesarean section recovery
- Hospital-issued Cecil blue scrubs required; navy scrubs also acceptable
- Unit orientation is 32 hours, with weekly orientation scheduling
- Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
- First-time travelers are not specified as accepted; prior travel experience is required
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved excluding holidays; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
