Overview
Millstone 4H Educational Center is seeking licensed RNs to join our team for the 2026 Summer Camp season. The Camp Nurse serves as a vital member of the Camp Healthcare Team and oversees all health care operations for approximately 120 residential campers each week. The on-site housing is provided, or the candidate must reside within a half-hour of the camp for the duration of the summer season.
The position is on a temporary basis.
- Follow all health care policies/procedures as described in facility standing orders, treatment procedures, and Staff Manual
- Be on call to respond to medical emergencies at all times campers are on-site, including overnight
- Perform basic assessment and first aid for conditions such as minor injuries, insect bites, dehydration, sunburns, and general illness; provide follow-up checks as needed
- Facilitate proper medication administration for routine prescription and over-the-counter medications during all administration periods
- Maintain written medical records for all medications and treatments administered according to state and American Camp Association standards
- Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms
- Oversee Sunday check-in and Friday check-out of all camper medications each week and discuss medical concerns with parents/guardians as needed
- Review camper health forms and communicate medical needs to counselors as necessary
- Manage a team of 1-2 Health Care Coordinators who may assist with primary and secondary responsibilities
- Prepare and distribute camper medication schedules to all counselors before dinner on Sundays
- Attend all relevant staff trainings
- Keep the camp infirmary and medical supply storage space clean and organized
- Prepare and distribute all campus first aid kits and conduct routine checks and restocks
- Perform medical supply/equipment inventory and place restock orders
The summer season runs May 29 – August 7, 2026. Workdays begin at noon on Sundays and end at noon on Fridays. The role requires a high level of responsibility and 24/7 on-call coverage, including overnight, meal times, and activities to ensure camper and staff health. Lodging is provided (7 days a week, if needed) and meals are provided (5 days a week).
There is potential to modify to a part-time role based on applicant needs and experience. Child discount for camp is negotiable.
- Currently licensed to practice as an LPN, RN, or APRN within the state of North Carolina
- Must possess a positive attitude and professionalism
- Experience in nursing or medical field
- Ability to administer medication
- Ability to work independently and follow directions
- Enjoy working with youth in an outdoor environment
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions including high temperatures and inclement weather
- Strong communication skills with camp staff, parents/guardians, and campers
- Ability to utilize critical thinking in emergency situations outside of the clinical setting and determine when higher-level care is appropriate
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certified
- Valid LPN, RN, or APRN license
- Valid driver’s license
$28-$35 per hour
