The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides nursing services, medication evaluation, medication prescribing, and medication monitoring per the Board of Nursing guidelines. This position monitors psychiatric symptoms, screens for medical issues, provides coordination with the medical provider and offers education to members and ACTT staff about medications.

This position is structured as a 1099 independent contractor arrangement and is not an employee position. The contractor is responsible for applicable federal, state, and local taxes, including self-employment taxes, and will receive a Form 1099 as required by law.

Education:

Must be fully licensed as a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the state of North Carolina with a Master's degree in Nursing.

Work experience:

At least one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner with at least one year working with severely mentally ill adults. Three to five years’ experience is preferred. Clinical supervisor experience is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Understanding of nursing standards and ability to work with individuals in the community that are not in a clinical setting and provide medication evaluation, medication management and education to members of the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT). Understanding of nursing principles, medication prescribing for mental illness, medication storage, HIPAA standards and medical service coordination. Ability to work with members who have mental illness that may require frequent interventions.

Some knowledge of counseling techniques. Knowledge of DSM V diagnoses and an understanding of how to treat these different diagnoses. Responsible for overall clinical responsibility of assessing, providing, and monitoring medication management. Provide psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment, clinical supervision, education, training and development, maintenance, supervision of medication and psychiatric and medical treatment policies and procedures. Complete required documentation in a timely manner and keep detailed and accurate documentation of interventions with patients.

Participate with the multidisciplinary team in the development and review of treatment planning and case assignment. Miscellaneous Responsibilities (perform other duties as assigned/required)

Skills:

Possess skills in establishing a rapport with members, applying techniques of assessing psychosocial and behavioral aspects of a member’s problems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members being served by the ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) Team.

Ability to work on a team of professionals as a member of the team. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.

Travel Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License and insurance required. Travel will vary depending on the daily schedule for this position. All travel is in the community where the members live and work.
