Job Overview
Responsible for managing the plant Quality Assurance Soup Laboratories, including the Chemistry Lab and Microbiological Lab. In coordination with the Quality Systems Manager, Logistics, Operations, and R/D, the role oversees releases of products, new and reformulated product startups, supplier and incoming material COAs, and noncompliance events. The position manages laboratory data and resolves specification issues with materials and products.
Responsibilities- Coordinate test runs, new product/reformulation start‑ups with plant personnel, Formula and Procedures Coordinators, Quality Specialists, and WHQ R&D representatives.
- Report outcomes and recommend further actions to management.
- Organize & report conformance of new products to specifications per the Policy on Specifications Development.
- Coordinate corrective action plans among plant, WHQ QA, R&D, and business sectors to achieve compliance.
- Schedule and ensure sampling per specification and Food Safety/Quality requirements.
- Maintain compliance of Microbiology and Chemistry labs, providing training and corrective action as required.
- Maintain database and MES system for statistical tracking; issue monthly conformance reports.
- Supervise laboratory technicians and ensure equipment and staffing meet plant needs.
- Troubleshoot out‑of‑specification results and work with operations and maintenance on corrective action.
- Ensure daily panels are completed, documented, and compliant.
- Implement programs for in‑process specification controls.
- Use MES/Zarpac/Historian/Power BI or other data‑reporting tools to report data.
- Manage supplier quality monitoring; schedule sampling of ingredients to ensure compliance.
- For out‑of‑specification work, collaborate with plant, purchasing, and Supply Quality to assess supplier performance and adjust sampling criteria.
- Maintain supplier non‑conformance database and issue updates to WHQ Purchasing Quality.
- Coordinate supplier visits and inspections as needed.
- Support Quality department functions including 3rd‑party audit support, commercialization, product releases, internal audits, mock recalls, and other designated functions.
- Support Plant Operational Excellence work (pillar and DDS support).
- Ensure timely product releases related to set‑a‑side, incubated products, micro evaluations, and out‑of‑specification products.
- Competence in WMS, SAP, Rebus or third‑party portals related to releases.
- Evaluate laboratory management programs and recommend improvements.
- Work cross‑functionally with departments, WHQ, Engineering, and R/D to resolve product start‑up issues.
- Benchmark new lab technologies, communicate opportunities, and conduct trials or evaluations to assess benefits.
- Maintain working knowledge of food science and technology to support new product activities and specification resolutions.
- Coordinate resolution of QA‑related lab issues in Food Chemistry, Quality, and Microbiology.
- Must Have
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of Quality Assurance, Laboratory practices, or Food experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Nice to Have
- Bachelor of Science degree in food science, biology, microbiology, or related technical field.
- 5 years of experience in the food industry with demonstrated achievements in Quality Assurance or laboratory practices.
- HACCP and/or PCQI certification.

The target base salary range for this full‑time, salaried position is $90,400‑$130,000. Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job‑related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. We also offer competitive health, dental, 401(k), and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
