Purpose

As a Quality Engineer at Stanford Manufacturing, you will contribute to ensuring our products and services comply with customer and regulatory requirements before they reach the customer. This job is classified as a safety sensitive position. Attendance is an essential function of this role.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Quality Planning and Documentation:
    Creation of Quality Plans, control plans, work instructions, and workmanship standards to guide manufacturing processes
  • PPAP and PFMEA:
    Ensure timely delivery of PPAP packages, including PFMEA documentation, for new product launches
  • Continual Improvement:
    Lead projects and assist in developing new processes and procedures aligned with customer requirements
  • Nonconforming Material:
    Disposition nonconforming materials based on criticality and functional specifications
  • Corrective Actions:
    Write investigation reports/CAPA and ensure internal and supplier quality corrective actions (8D's) meet required timing and format
  • Audits:
    Participate in internal audits (ISO 9001) and support external audits as needed
  • Supplier Management:
    Assist with setting supplier requirements and monitoring compliance
  • Training:
    Provide guidance to inspectors, technicians, and operators on quality requirements
  • Measurement and Analysis:
    Develop Measurement System Analysis (MSA) plans and apply statistical tools for process capability and calibration
  • Process Validation:
    Support validation of injection molding processes to ensure they meet product specifications and customer requirements.
  • Mold

    Qualification:

    Participate in mold qualification activities, including first article inspections and approval processes.
  • Material Control:
    Ensure proper handling, storage, and control of raw materials (resins, additives) to prevent contamination or mix-ups.
  • Dimensional Inspection:
    Conduct or oversee dimensional inspections of molded parts using tools like CMMs, optical comparators, or calipers.
  • Visual Inspection:
    Develop and implement visual inspection criteria for molded parts, including defect identification and classification.
  • Process Monitoring:
    Monitor and analyze process parameters (temperature, pressure, cycle time) to ensure they remain within established control limits.
  • Capability Studies:
    Conduct process capability studies (Cp, Cpk) to assess process performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC):
    Implement and maintain SPC charts for critical process parameters and product characteristics.
  • First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs):
    Generate FAIRs for new parts or significant process changes, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Failure Analysis:
    Participate in failure analysis of defective parts, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Tooling Maintenance Support:
    Collaborate with maintenance teams on mold upkeep and troubleshooting to ensure tooling remains in good working condition.
  • Customer Complaint Handling:
    Assist in investigating and responding to customer complaints related to quality issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations (e.g., FDA regulations for food contact materials if applicable).
  • Training Development:
    Contribute to developing and delivering quality-related training for production staff.
  • Continuous Improvement Projects:
    Lead or participate in projects aimed at improving quality, reducing scrap, or enhancing process efficiency.
  • Documentation Control:
    Ensure quality-related documents (procedures, work instructions) are controlled and up-to-date.
  • Supplier Quality Management:
    Interface with suppliers (resin suppliers, mold makers) on quality matters.
  • Advanced Quality Planning (APQP):
    Participate in APQP activities for new product introductions.
  • Risk Management:

    Apply risk management techniques (like FMEA) to identify and mitigate quality risks.
  • Calibration Management:
    Oversee calibration of quality inspection equipment to ensure measurement accuracy.
  • Other Duties:
    Occasionally work as a Quality Assurance Technician as needed and may be on call for other shifts
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED; 3-5 years of quality experience preferred
  • Must be able to read part drawings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and quality improvement
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with quality control tools like calipers, micrometers, and CMM
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001; AS9100 experience a plus
