This role is critical to ensuring molded products consistently meet customer, engineering, and internal quality requirements while driving continuous improvement on the production floor.
Whatyou'll do
- Supervise and coordinate the Quality Department supporting plastic injection molding operations

- Review prior-shift quality issues, scrap, rework, and rejection data at the start of each shift
- Verify first-piece, in-process, and final inspections are completed accurately and on schedule
- Monitor critical dimensions, visual characteristics, and common molding defects such as flash, warpage, sink marks, short shots, burns, cracks, and contamination
- Work closely with Production and Engineering to identify molding-related quality issues, including mold condition, process settings, material traceability, and startup conditions
- Control nonconforming material, including identification, segregation, disposition, and preventing accidental release
- Direct and supervise Quality Technicians/Inspectors, including training, coaching, and performance management
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action efforts for quality problems
- Monitor and analyze scrap and rework trends, identifying high-frequency and high-cost defects
- Ensure proper quality checks and documentation during mold changes and machine startups
- Maintain accurate quality records, including inspection reports, nonconformance reports, corrective actions, and calibration records
- Conduct end-of-shift reviews and provide clear handoff of open quality issues to the next shift
- Participate in weekly reviews of scrap trends, recurring defects, open corrective actions, and training needs
- Audit production areas for compliance with quality requirements and support continuous improvement activities
- Evaluate performance using measurable quality metrics such as scrap percentage, first-pass yield, and inspection compliance
- Hold authority to place product on hold, require additional inspection, and stop release of nonconforming product
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and other quality tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management, or a related field preferred
- Background in plastics manufacturing ideally preferred
