Assistant Researcher – Medical Biotechnology
The Centro de Ciências do Mar do Algarve (CCMAR) is opening a recruitment and selection process for one position as an Assistant Researcher in Medical Biotechnology, this position is open to citizens of any nationality, including stateless individuals, under a permanent employment contract to recruit and select the best candidate for activities within the Mar Plus Project - Hiring of Highly Qualified Human Resources, funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) of the European Union, according to the following conditions:

With a multidisciplinary team, well-equipped facilities, and laboratories, CCMAR engages in core areas such as research, training, business, societal engagement, and collaboration.
We are searching for an excellent researcher to investigate fundamental and applied aspects of novel biomolecules to explore potential medical applications. The selected candidate is expected:

This is the initial work plan. However, the selected candidate may be assigned additional tasks and responsibilities in alignment with the CCMAR's evolving strategy, allowing for adaptation to new priorities and challenges.
The contract is expected to start in February 2025. Activities will occur at CCMAR (University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal) and other locations necessary for the proposed tasks. Working hours are 35 hours per week. The gross base monthly salary is €3,427.59 (Index 195). The application period starts on 6th of January, 2025 and ends on 20th of January, 2025, at 23:59 (Lisbon time, Portugal).
The selected candidate must have completed a PhD in Biology or a related field, with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience in Molecular and Cellular Biology applied to disease mechanisms and biotechnology. The candidate must have a solid publication record with high-quality publications in recognised scientific journals, project leadership, service provision, invitations to speak at conferences and awards, and a proven ability to obtain funding in competitive calls, with particular emphasis on cardiovascular diseases, inflammation, and osteoarthritis, including molecular mechanisms of action and applications to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases.
The candidate must have expertise in cell culture, molecular biology, human pathophysiology relevant to chronic inflammation and pathological calcification mechanisms, protein biochemistry, histology and immunohistochemistry, recombinant protein production, and extracellular vesicle applications. The candidate must have experience supervising MSc and PhD students. High proficiency in spoken and written English (explicitly indicated in the CV) is required.
