Research Assistant/Associate, Agriculture / Farming, Research Scientist, Biology
We are offering casual employment providing practical support across both our Field Research Network and horticultural research projects involving summerfruit, kiwiberry, grapes and berryfruit.
Approximately 50% of the role will involve supporting the Field Research Network. This is hands-on, physically demanding work associated with maintaining research orchards, vineyards and field sites. Tasks may include pruning and training plants, planting, harvesting, maintaining trial areas, moving equipment and materials, setting up research infrastructure, and assisting with other general field operations.
The remaining 50% will support horticultural research trials designed to optimise fruit production and improve fruit quality. Working alongside researchers and technical staff, you will assist with collecting and recording research data, monitoring trials, preparing fruit and plant samples, undertaking basic laboratory activities, and supporting research with plant physiology, sustainable production systems, canopy management and postharvest performance trials.
This is a varied and physically active role that combinesgeneral fieldwork with practical research support. A good level of fitness is essential, as the work can involve lifting and carrying, climbing ladders, repetitive tasks, and working outdoors in a range of weather conditions. Flexibility to work additional hours during busy seasonal periods, particularly planting and harvest, is also required.
