Job Overview

Coastal Beverage Company, Inc., the leading beverage distributor in Eastern North Carolina is looking for a Sales Representative – Small Format to join the crew. You will be responsible for safely increasing market share in assigned accounts with a strong focus on customer service and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Increase market share in assigned accounts.
  • Remain consistently present in customer accounts during standard business hours.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with decision‑makers through professionalism, product knowledge, and excellent sales/service techniques.
  • Stay current and comply with ABC and industry regulations.
  • Place product orders and communicate with CSR and merchandisers regarding special instructions, account issues, or displays.
  • Analyze, forecast, and plan for account sales activity impacted by special events, advertising, holidays, price promotions, weather, and other factors.
  • Recommend product sales improvement techniques to customers through merchandising, displays, promotions, and advertising.
  • Ensure pricing and POS are current and accurate; keep product, coolers, and backstock neat and clean.
  • Maximize opportunities by communicating pricing promotions and new products.
  • Rotate products and prevent out‑of‑code items in account.
  • Resolve customer complaints regarding products or service and, when necessary, lift complaints to a supervisor or manager.
  • Achieve monthly sales goals; maintain knowledge of performance using tools and technology.
  • Manage POS forecasts, orders, and inventory for N/A brands.
  • Stay informed about industry and company information through flyers, bulletin boards, reading materials, sales meetings, intranet, and route‑accounting systems.
  • Maintain assigned company vehicle, equipment, and process invoice payments received from customers.
  • Comply with all internal policies, supplier requirements, laws, and regulations.
  • Work in a safe manner using PPE, applying safe driving techniques, and lifting properly at all times.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, or 2‑5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Intermediate communication skills: ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Intermediate math skills: ability to calculate figures, apply basic algebra and geometry concepts, and determine discounts, interests, commissions, percentages, etc.
  • Intermediate reasoning skills: ability to apply common sense to carry out written or oral instructions, and to solve problems involving several concrete variables.
  • Basic computer skills: knowledge of or ability to learn inventory software, route‑accounting software, internet, e‑mail, and basic word‑processing or spreadsheet software.
  • Reliability and punctuality: maintain regular and in‑person attendance to support sales operations.
  • Valid beer and wine sales license.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record that complies with company standards.
  • Physical Requirements

    Regularly/constantly (≥ 66 % of workday)
    Walk/stand, lift/carry up to 46 lb, lift one‑handed, and reach from knee to shoulder.

    Frequently (34–66 % of workday)
    Push/pull forces up to 40 lb (carts), reach below knee, reach above shoulder, handle/grasp, talk, hear, and see. Visual tasks: close, distance, peripheral, color, depth perception, eye‑hand coordination, acuity, and focus adjustment.

    Occasionally (< 34 % of workday)
    Sit, climb, balance, twist of trunk, finger/pinch, and see in color.
