Position: Public Safety Officers Temporary (2025-2026)
Location: Pembroke

Overview

Public Safety Officers Temporary ) – Division Finance and Administration, Department Police & Public Safety. This position is part of the Auxiliary Police Officer Pool ) and is part-time temporary. Responsibilities
  • Respond to and investigate complaints and violations of the law to determine causes, identify witnesses, preserve evidence through crime scene search, arrest suspects, testify in court, and complete incident and case reports.
  • patrol the University’s parking lots, streets, grounds and buildings to enforce laws and protect persons and property; provide information and assistance as appropriate.
  • Enforce traffic laws and University parking ordinances; investigate traffic accidents, control traffic, safeguard damaged property, provide first aid, and issue NC Uniform Citations or university parking tickets as appropriate.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff and visitors by providing information, facilitating approved activities, assisting stranded motorists, and providing safety escorts; provide first responder care pending professional medical personnel arrival; coordinate fire, rescue and ambulance activities as needed.
  • Attend training and classes required to maintain certification as a law enforcement officer, including topics in criminal law, police science, first aid, emergency response, communications, public relations, and University policies.
  • Provide security for visitors on campus, coordinate with outside law enforcement and emergency personnel, and assist with security for transports of University funds and dignitaries as needed.
  • Maintain communications with local law enforcement agencies and the public using established electronic devices.
  • Perform other duties as required; work various shifts including holidays and special events.
Qualifications
  • Min T/E:
    Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate; certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.
  • FTE: 0.10
  • Recruitment Range: $20 - $40 per hour, depending on qualifications
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $20 - $40 per hour, depending on qualifications
