Position Overview
The Security Officer at Haywood Regional Medical Center is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the facility, its employees, patients, and visitors. The role involves monitoring activities, conducting patrols, and supporting emergency response efforts on a PRN basis.
Responsibilities- Observe and report activities and incidents at all Haywood Regional Medical Center properties.
- Protect the safety of property and personnel.
- Conduct periodic tours, document irregularities, and perform fire watch when required.
- Enforce regulations and directives related to personnel, patients, visitors, and premises.
- Collect and return valuables from patients, following high‑liability procedures.
- Assist with the receiving, releasing, and handling of deceased bodies.
- Act as a sitter during shifts when needed to monitor patients at risk of suicide or self‑harm.
- Provide relief for Telecommunicators, including breaks and meal breaks.
- Monitor the ED Lobby from the Security Desk and the Main Lobby from the Volunteer Desk.
- Assist in light snow removal and ice melt spreading to ensure safety.
- Assist in lifting or moving patients as requested.
PRN (as‑needed) schedule.

Physical and mental fitness required. Must be able to:
- Walk extensively during a shift.
- Perform bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Show eye‑hand coordination and finger dexterity.
- Remain calm and manage stressful situations effectively.
- Interact with authorities, executives, clients, staff, and the public under pressure.
- Possess the ability to observe, report, and communicate incidents clearly.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Certifications- National Certified Interview (NCI) within 30 days of hire.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- American Heart Association First Aid – required.
- Handle With Care – required.
