Role Overview
Correctional Sergeant I (S) – operating within the NC Department of Adult Correction at Foothills Correctional Institution, a close/minimum custody male facility. The position reports to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager I and is responsible for supervising subordinate officers, ensuring inmate safety and welfare, and maintaining operational readiness of personnel and equipment.
Responsibilities- Conduct shift line‑up, assign shift duties, and assess personnel for physical and mental readiness to assume assigned posts.
- Supervise, assign and direct subordinate officers to specific areas or posts.
- Complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and related administrative forms.
- Account for personnel and funds to ensure equipment and resources are operationally ready.
- Oversee activities of subordinate officers related to the custody and welfare of offenders.
- Complete rotating and various duty assignments as defined by the work level.
- High School diploma or GED and at least two years of experience as a correctional officer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
- Pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
- Hold a valid driver’s license.
- Certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
- Pass all required background, medical, and drug screenings.
