Correctional Sergeant III (S)

Reports to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or the Correctional Housing Unit Manager. Provides first‑line supervision to Correctional Officer IIIs in close‑custody institutions with restrictive and controlled housing. Assigns lower‑level custody staff to specific areas or posts.

• Oversee officer activities and performance to maintain custody, security, and welfare of inmates.
• Arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage and implement operational procedures.
• Ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
• Supervise staff beyond the scope of Correctional Sergeant I or II.

• High School or GED diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III, or an equivalent combination.
• Eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
• Meet Criminal Justice Standards (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Produce a negative drug screening result.
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.

• Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures.
• Experience in Facility Operations.
