The Security Operations Technician ensures the safety and security of the data center facilities by monitoring access, surveillance systems, and operational alerts. As part of the site’s 24/7 operations team, this position is responsible for maintaining a secure environment, performing regular walkthroughs, monitoring systems in real time, responding to incidents, and escalating issues as per established protocols. The role also provides first-level support for basic operational tickets and coordinates with the Operations team to ensure consistent enforcement of site procedures.
Key Responsibilities:Facility Security and Surveillance
- Monitor cameras, security and alarm systems in real time to ensure continuous surveillance of the facility.
- Control and record site access in accordance with established security protocols.
- Conduct walkthroughs of interior and exterior areas to identify potential security or safety issues.
- Respond promptly to alarms, unauthorized access, or irregular activity, escalating to the Data Center Manager or on-call supervisor as needed.
- Maintain detailed incident logs and shift reports.
- Supervise environmental and support system dashboards (temperature, power, network alerts, etc.) and escalate anomalies according to the incident management procedure.
- Perform initial triage and resolution of basic alerts or support tickets.
- Coordinate with internal teams and service providers for maintenance or intervention when required.
- Ensure that all security operations adhere to internal policies and procedures, including access control, visitor management, and emergency response.
- Support audits and compliance verifications by providing accurate logs and documentation.
- Participate in security drills and training sessions to maintain readiness and procedural alignment.
- Contribute to improving site security and monitoring procedures by identifying recurring issues or opportunities for optimization.
- Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure cross-functional awareness and alignment with organizational standards.
Education & Experience
- Diploma or technical training in security operations, IT systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) preferred.
- Prior experience in a 24/7 monitoring or security environment (data center, industrial site, or critical infrastructure) is an asset.
- Familiarity with surveillance systems, biometric access controls, and ticketing tools preferred.
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
- Capacity to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision and within a rotating shift schedule.
- Basic understanding of IT systems and tools (such as M365 suite) and building systems monitoring.
- 12-hour shifts to provide continuous 24/7 coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work performed primarily onsite in and surrounding a secure data center environment.
- May involve occasional lifting (up to 25 kg) or extended standing during facility walkthroughs.
