Job Description

Reports to: Director for Maintenance

Supervises: Electric Crew

Term of Employment: 12 months

Salary: HVAC Mechanic II - 69

FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt

Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or equivalency, preferably supplemented by vocational training in the electrical and HVAC field
  • Broad and extensive experience in electrical and HVAC maintenance
  • School Maintenance Electrician Certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a universal CFC Certification
Essential Job Functions
  • Supervises, coordinates, and assists in all activities involving the schools’ electrical and HVAC systems
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and HVAC systems
  • Contacts and meets with vendors and contractors to solicit bids on repair and replacement projects
  • Obtains needed supplies and equipment to complete assigned tasks
  • Performs administrative duties associated with work orders and assigns staff to projects as necessary by workload to ensure projects are completed
  • Communicates with staff to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Evaluates staff in accordance with established policy
  • Inspects electrical and HVAC systems in school facilities
  • Inspects and supervises contractors on electrical and HVAC projects
  • Plans and schedules replacement of HVAC equipment
  • Troubleshoots and replaces faulty electrical components
  • Directs and performs repair tasks on a variety of electrical systems including fuses, breakers, panels, branch circuits, light switches, receptacles, exhaust hood fans, motors and all other electrical system equipment
  • Troubleshoots and repairs faulty thermostats, sensors, wiring and controls
  • Directs and performs maintenance and repairs on a variety of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment
  • Plans and installs conduits and wiring necessary for Energy Management controls
  • Maintains Energy Management
  • Maintains equipment and supplies
  • Cleans, lubricates and performs routine service on all types of HVAC equipment
  • Fabricates and installs piping and duct systems
  • Utilizes recycling and recovery equipment
  • Maintains general knowledge of the regulations and codes pertaining to electrical and HVAC systems
  • Provides assistance to other crews as needed
  • Responds to after hour emergencies as requested
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job classification within Moore County Schools.

Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

  • safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
