Utility Maintenance Technician

The Town of Kill Devil Hills is seeking a Utility Maintenance Technician to perform responsible semi‑skilled work in reading, installing, replacing, repairing, and preventing maintenance of water meters, lines, and other utility appurtenances. The position requires the operation of construction equipment for water pipe installation, replacement, and repair to the specified grade and depth, back filling, compaction of the site, making taps to water mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, and reading water meters.

• Reading, installation, replacement, repair, and preventive maintenance of water meters, lines, and other utility appurtenances.
• Operation of construction equipment for installation, replacement, and repair of water pipes to specific grade and depth.
• Back filling and compacting the site.
• Making taps to water mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves.
• Reading water meters.

• Possession of a valid N.C. driver's license.
• Ability to obtain grade C water distribution certification within 12 months of hire.
• Experience and knowledge of water distribution and sewer systems.
• Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, stooping, kneeling, and wearing protective equipment.
• Provision of valid references and background checks.

Salary range: $48,225 to $77,160 with an excellent benefits package.

Applicants not meeting minimum requirements may be considered at a training rate of pay.

Potential to become a utility maintenance crew leader with certifications in Backflow, Cross Connection, and Distribution.
