Construction Skills & Technology Program Instructor
The instructor is responsible for delivering classroom/lab instruction and supervision for Haywood Community College's Construction Skills & Technology program in one or more of the following subject matter areas: HVACR, Carpentry, Basic Construction Skills. Coursework includes planning, implementation, and evaluation of program components, services, and related activities. The instructor will work closely with the Construction Skills & Technology Coordinator. This position posting runs on a continuous open cycle and creates a pool of candidates for consideration when part time employment is available.

Job Duties
Essential Job Duties
- Promote College mission, values, and vision
- Teach assigned courses to meet program needs
- Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate feedback
- Prepare lesson plans, course overviews, and course syllabi
- Use and promote appropriate technology to enhance student learning outcomes
- Plan classes
- Maintain equipment and ensure proper storage and security of supplies
- Determine need for supplies and ensure proper storage
- Maintain cleanliness of class/grounds/lab area
- Assist in the evaluation of courses and programs
- Prepare and submit attendance records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy
- Perform other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College

- Create a student-centered environment for on and off campus students
- Work toward operational excellence and continuous improvement of processes, and seek help from advisory committees

Basic Construction Skills Instructor
Required:
Journey-level (at least 4 years) construction industry experience in any skilled craft trade and understanding of basic jobsite safety practices, construction math, hand and power tool safety and usage, print reading, and materials handling. Ability to provide informed instruction in basic communication and employability skills.
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVACR) Instructor
Minimum: HVACR experience at a minimum journey- or technician-level (at least 4 years)
-or- a minimum of 3 years' experience as a certified HVACR trades teacher in a vocational/technical construction or maintenance-related training program
Preferred:
Associates degree in HVACR from a regionally accredited institution and/or H2 or H3 North Carolina HVACR licensure as a contractor or technician. EPA Section 608 Technician certification (Type I, II, III, or Universal)
Construction Technology Instructor
Minimum:
Journey-level (at least 4 years) construction industry experience in any skilled craft trade and a working understanding of the residential building process, from site excavation through certificate of occupancy. Ability to perform and teach rough carpentry, including floor, wall, and ceiling/roof framing, stair construction, exterior finish work, and roofing fundamentals, with an emphasis on safety and proper use of PPE.
Experience with hand and power tools used in rough and finish carpentry for residential construction. Knowledge and understanding of current North Carolina residential building codes.
Preferred:
Associates degree in Construction Technology or Construction Management from a regionally accredited institution and/or North Carolina licensure as a Building or Residential contractor
