Responsibilities
The duties to be performed include:
- Installing traffic signal equipment
- Wiring detectors
- Installing and wiring controllers
- Tracing electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble
- Dismantling and reassembling components
- Replacing worn or faulty parts
Education:
Associate’s degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience:
One year of experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of specialized electronic devices, preferably with some responsibility for circuit modification.
Knowledge and
Skills:
- General knowledge of principles and practices applied in the safe and efficient use of tools, materials, and test equipment used in electrical/electronic trade.
- Ability to diagnose the source of equipment failures and repair/maintain a wide variety of complex electrical equipment.
- Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal technical supervision.
- Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
Driver’s License:
Must possess a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License at the time of hire or obtain it within 360 days of hire. CDL requirements include:
- No more than two convictions of moving violations within the past three years.
- No convictions of an alcohol or drug related traffic offense within the past five years.
- Valid, current North Carolina driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
- Ability to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds and shoulder heavy equipment.
- Must operate an aerial bucket truck up to 50+ feet in height without accommodations.
- Perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signals and other traffic control devices.
- Work in environmental conditions including extreme cold and excessive heat, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic, and heavy construction.
- Position may require emergency callbacks, overtime, and non-traditional work hours including weekends, holidays, nights, and emergency periods.
