Job Summary
The Technician II - Structured Cabling must perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team, coordinating small groups of installers to successfully complete daily workload while adhering to company safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities- Install work area outlets for floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mount face plates and surface mount boxes, and adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards).
- Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware; install grounding for racks, equipment and cable, and complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
- Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable, use volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
- Identify active voice or data circuits.
- Assume responsibility for effective performance of crew, provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
- Fully complete all IES Communications paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and other as required).
- Adhere to and participate in all company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum: USD $25.00/hr | Maximum: USD $30.00/hr

- Possesses proven problem‑solving, critical thinking, and written communication skills.
- Can work at heights, on a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- Endures long periods of standing, walking, or working in inclement weather and possesses sufficient physical strength and agility.
- Can see and distinguish colors, read small print, and hear audible signals such as dial tones.
- Able to travel within the branch or regional territory as needed.
- Maintains regular attendance.
- Has adequate transportation to and from the job site.
- Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle‑nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves.
- Trade tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool.
- High‑school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and ability to supervise others.
- Proficiency with listed tools.
- Skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
- Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
