Position: 2600 Caretaker Tank Repair Carpenter Day Shift
Location: Mount Olive

Summary

Repairs and maintains tanks, platforms, purge pipes, brine/air lines and other carpentry/plumbing duties as assigned by Supervisor

Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions
  • Must be able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Completes partial/full teardowns and rebuilds of platforms (decking, support structure, stairs, etc.).
  • Prefabricates components for platforms and structures as needed
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of and the ability to carry out basic carpentry and plumbing tasks
  • Repairs tanks using fiberglass patching/resin.
  • Installs and repairs test boxes/purge pipes/blower pipes for fiberglass tanks.
  • Installs/repairs/maintains tubing and purge diffuser stones for the purge pipes
  • Drills drain holes and installs plugs and header brackets for fiberglass tanks.
  • Builds and repairs portable heads for fiberglass tanks.
  • Makes repairs to pallet boxes, catwalks, steps, platforms, and other carpentry repairs. (Added the first line, maybe tweak this?)
  • Makes repairs to air lines, brine lines, air valves, brine valves and other minor plumbing repairs.
  • Must be proficient in the use of both carpentry and plumbing tools (table saw, band saw, drill, nail gun, hammer, etc)
  • Maintains clean working areas.
  • Operates forklift for material handling.
  • Works in a variety of abnormal positions including working from ladders, working in a cramped position, etc. in performing job tasks. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Follows safety rules and company policies
Other Duties
  • Keeps inventory of tools and materials (lumber, pvc piping, nails/screws, etc) and lets supervisor know when to order.
  • Operates forklift.
  • Stoops, bend and lifts or pushes heavy objects in many job duties and works from ladder in some job tasks.
  • Performs duties of Caretaker as necessary.
  • Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.
  • Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.
Requirements Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Certified forklift operator required. High school graduate with additional training preferred. Ability to read, write and speak English required. Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions needed for job tasks. Must have the ability to follow directions and complete special tasks or projects as instructed by management.

Machines, Equipment, Tools Used

Hand tools including acetylene cutting torch, wrenches, hammer, crowbar, combination square, measuring tape, and silicon gun. Electrical tools including grinders, nail gun, drills, sanders, radial arm saw, wood lathe, wood planer, wood bandsaw, and metal bandsaw. Operates forklift.

Physical Demands
  • Climbing:
    Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
  • Stooping:
    Bending body downward and forward by bending spine s factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Kneeling:
    Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching:
    Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching:
    Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing:
    Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking:
    Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing:
    Using upper extremities to press against something with steady forces in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
  • Pulling:
    Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting:
    Raising objects from a lower to a high position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Grasping:
    Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Talking:
