Position:
Maintenance Mechanic – Sawmill Company
Location:
Enfield, NC 27823
- Level 1 / Helper: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour (+$1.00/hour 2nd Shift Differential)
- Level 2 / Intermediate
Experience:
$25.00 – $28.00 per hour (+$1.00/hour 2nd Shift Differential) - Level 3 /
Proven Experience:
$28.00 – $35.00 per hour (+$1.00/hour 2nd Shift Differential)
- 1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- 2nd Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and fabricating components for heavy mechanical equipment used in sawmill operations. This role supports continuous production by ensuring all machinery operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Key Responsibilities- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on sawmill equipment and heavy mechanical machinery
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to diagnose and repair equipment failures
- Fabricate, weld, cut, and modify parts or structures as needed
- Repair conveyors, saws, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and hydraulic components
- Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime
- Follow work orders, blueprints, schematics, and verbal instructions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Support mill operations during high production periods and shutdowns
- Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of hands‑on mechanical experience with hydraulic systems, mechanical components, and troubleshooting
- Experience with mechanical maintenance, fabrication, hydraulics, and heavy machinery (level based on experience)
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Must wear steel‑toe shoes, hard hat, safety vest, and safety glasses at all times on‑site (MANDATORY)
- Ability to stand for long periods, twist and bend frequently, walk for extended periods, and perform continuous hand use
- Ability to lift 45–55 lbs regularly without restrictions
- Ability to work in hot and cold, indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather
- Strong adherence to safety, time, and attendance policies (company expectations are high)
- Willingness to work overtime during peak/high season
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment
- Must pass drug test, background check, and E‑Verify
- Prior sawmill or lumber industry experience
- Welding and fabrication certifications
- Experience with hydraulic systems and preventive maintenance programs
- Bilingual is a plus, but not required
A 90‑day probationary period with a possible increase based on performance and attendance. After this period, the employee may have the option to transfer directly to the company and may be eligible for an additional increase.
