The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor at a multi-custody female correctional facility, this position provides facility maintenance support predominantly in the trade area of plumbing. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• 1. Performing journey level duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems.
• 2. Performing routine work assignments based on the nature of the location of the needed repair with assignments involving work of special or unusual nature are accompanied by specific instructions.
• 3. Exercising considerable independence in performance of routine work while unprecedented assignments are usually discussed with or supervised by foreman.
• 4. Reviewing work through inspection of work in progress and on the basis of satisfactory operation of equipment repaired or installed.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Documented knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.

Anson Correctional Institution houses female offenders in medium and close custody housing units. Anson CI offers a wide variety of educational, vocational, and training programs. Correction Enterprises operates the offender packaging operation at Anson, a partnership with Union Supply Direct through the Prison Industry Enhancement Program (PIE). Family and friends can order a package of goods from a pre-approved shopping list to send to an offender.

Orders are packaged by offenders and shipped quarterly.
