Farm Technician

Department: Service

Reports to: Service Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Purpose:

The Farm Equipment Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining farm equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position performs mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical service work in accordance with company and manufacturer standards while maintaining a strong focus on quality workmanship, productivity, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-quality mechanical repairs and maintenance assigned by the Service Manager in a professional and timely manner.
  • Diagnose equipment issues accurately and assist in identifying necessary repairs and preventative maintenance recommendations for customers.
  • Maintain service tools, equipment, and assigned shop bay in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures and help maintain a safe working environment in the shop and service areas.
  • Document all diagnostics, repairs, and parts used thoroughly and accurately on repair orders.
  • Use technical resources, schematics, and diagnostic tools to complete repairs according to manufacturer and company standards.

Education and/or

Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school, vocational training, or related mechanical coursework required
  • Prior experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining farm equipment, heavy equipment, diesel equipment, or related machinery required
  • Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems preferred
  • OEM certifications or equipment manufacturer training preferred

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Technical Aptitude – Ability to use diagnostic tools, technical manuals, schematics, and digital service resources to complete repairs accurately.
  • Problem Solving – Analysing information and evaluating results to identify effective repair solutions.

  • Communication – Communicating effectively with customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Safety Awareness – Following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Time Management – Managing one’s own time efficiently and completing assigned work in a timely manner.

Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license required

Pay Structure

Compensation varies based on experience, skill level, location, and performance. This position may be eligible for a monthly incentive plan, with top performers eligible to earn up to an additional $10,000 per year. Compensation and incentive details will be discussed during the interview process.

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in a shop, service area, and/or field environment. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, equipment, tools, fluids, noise, weather conditions, and other conditions commonly associated with equipment repair and maintenance. Overtime and occasional Saturday work may be required based on business needs. Training may be completed locally or may require out-of-state travel and overnight stays.

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to perform physical activities commonly associated with equipment repair, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling, and using hands and arms to operate tools and equipment. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and perform work in a physically demanding shop or field environment.
