Backbone Underground Inc is looking for dependable, hardworking Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Laborers to join our underground utility crew.
This is a hands‑on, outdoor construction position working alongside our drill operators, locators, and equipment operators. We are looking for people who are reliable, willing to work, and able to be part of a team.
Job Responsibilities- Assist HDD drill operators and crew with daily drilling operations
- Help set up and break down jobsites and equipment
- Hand dig and expose existing utilities as needed
- Assist with potholing, digging, trenching, and back filling
- Handle drill rods, tooling, pipe, conduit, and other materials
- Assist with pulling and installing underground utilities
- Load, unload, and organize tools and materials
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Perform basic equipment and tool maintenance
- Follow utility markings and jobsite safety procedures
- Assist with traffic control when necessary
- Perform other duties needed to help the crew complete jobs safely and efficiently
- HDD or underground utility experience is a plus
- Construction or general labor experience preferred
- Must be dependable and show up ready to work
- Must be comfortable performing physically demanding work
- Ability to lift, carry, bend, dig, and work on your feet throughout the day
- Must be able to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, mud, and other jobsite conditions
- Ability to follow directions and work well as part of a crew
- Valid driver's license preferred
- Must take safety seriously
We aren't expecting every applicant to already know directional drilling.
We're looking for someone who is willing to learn, isn't afraid of hard work, shows up consistently, and wants to become a valuable part of an HDD crew.
There is an opportunity to learn additional skills and equipment as you gain experience.
