Position: Income Maintenance Case worker II (PLA)
Location: Warrenton

Job Summary

Employees in this role are responsible for determining or re‑determining applicant/client eligibility for a County Department of Social Services income maintenance program. They interview clients, complete applications, verify information, determine eligibility, and conduct periodic program reviews. Employees explain program requirements and options and refer clients to other services, reporting to an Income Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Determine eligibility for one or more income maintenance programs (Food Stamps, AFDC, Medicaid, County Special Assistance).
  • Perform intake, processing, and review functions for single or multiple programs.
  • Act as a lead worker for at least 25% of the time, supervising other caseworkers.
  • Gather required data, conduct client interviews, and verify information.
  • Use program manuals, policy updates, and regulatory guidance to interpret eligibility criteria.
  • Participate in second‑party and quality reviews of eligibility decisions.
  • Communicate program requirements and client rights to clients and lower‑level staff.
Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or equivalent training and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of income maintenance and Medicaid Long‑Term Care programs.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and computational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Capability to supervise and evaluate lower‑level employees.
