Youth Development Coordinator
Location:
Perquimans County Schools ~ Central Office
Supervisor:
Assistant Superintendent
12 Month-Full-time
The following job description outlines the general nature and level of work performed by the Youth Development Coordinator. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of the employee serving as Youth Development Coordinator.
General Duties:
- Perform duties as described in the Perquimans County Youth Development Program Agreement.
- Responsible for the Teen Court program, including coordinating Teen Court Sessions, intake meetings, Teen Court trainings, and related Teen Court activities.
- Responsible for the Restitution/Community Service Program, which includes managing the program, maintaining contact with juvenile court counselors, working with site supervisors and parents, and monitoring student progress.
- Responsible for the Social Thinking Options Program (STOP), including using age-appropriate skills and strategies to increase desired behaviors, facilitating individual and group sessions, parent contact, monitoring juveniles' functioning at their respective school setting, coordinating activities designed to assist in decreasing delinquent and at-risk behaviors, conducting home visits as needed, and maintaining juvenile files.
- Enter and exit all program participants into NC Allies
- Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Department of Juvenile Justice Court Counselors.
- Prepare monthly reports to present at the JCPC meetings.
- Adhere to the Department of Public Safety ~ JCPC Policy and Program Agreement.
- Serve as the secretary for the Perquimans County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC).
- Attend professional growth conferences to upgrade and/or advance skills aligned with advancing the Youth Development Coordinator.
- Communicate with families of participants of the Youth Development Program regarding performance, attendance, and behavior.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of the Perquimans County Schools Board.
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree/Bachelor's Degree, preferred;
Graduation from high school and any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. - Previous office experience in the educational setting is desired.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform
Essential Job Functions:
- Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to sit, stand, walk, and drive a car. Must be able to lift mail and boxes up to 10 lbs. Must be able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak to people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to parents, students, and staff.
- Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and complete simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets using the prescribed format.
- Reasoning Ability: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
- Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate the eyes and hands to use a keyboard.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress.
- Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk, see, and hear. Must be able to communicate via telephone.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General knowledge of the standard procedures for an efficient office environment.
- Knowledge of the use of standard office equipment such as copiers, calculators, etc.
- General knowledge of word processing and familiarity with appropriate software.
- Ability to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and volunteers.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships with others in exercising discretion and action in the performance of assigned work.
- Ability to attend to details necessary to complete forms properly.
- Working knowledge and ability to use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of business letter writing and memos.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
