Position Overview

Examples of DutiesThis position is expected to perform all tasks associated with the initial determination and redetermination of eligibility of applicants and recipients of Adult Medicaid, Long Term Care Medicaid, Special Assistance, PACE, and the Community Alternative Program (CAP) benefit programs. Knowledge of Adult Medicaid programs is required to establish eligibility for those in need of skilled & intermediate nursing facility care, rest home and assisted living care, and in-home nursing care programs.
The worker in this position must be flexible and have the ability to implement policies and procedures for all programs quickly and accurately in accordance with time frames and guidelines set by NC Medicaid policy. The ability to compute varied and complex budgeting situations is also required.
Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred Education & Experience: Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university and related customer service experience and two years of Income Maintenance Caseworker experience OR two years of Income Maintenance Caseworker experience in a NC DSS agency.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the program/areas of assignment. General knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures. Ability to communicate with clients/applicants, the public at large, and public officials to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures.
Ability to instruct and to evaluate the work of lower level employees. Ability to perform caseworker functions within structured time frames.
Conditions of employment:
The selected applicant will be subject to the following conditions prior to appointment. Failure to complete or fulfill these conditions may result in dismissal. Law enforcement background check is required. This position will require assisting in emergency and/or disaster situations. The Cumberland County Department of Social Services has a dress code policy that must be adhered to. This policy includes specific guidelines related tattoos and body piercing.
