Correctional Case Manager (S)

This position is located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Avery County. Mountain View is a medium custody male facility that houses approximately 908 offenders. We offer a variety of educational classes and programs to promote offender rehabilitation. Employees in this class carry a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee.

Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of inmates, such as inmate work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community.

Key

Duties Include:

• Staying up to date on policies and procedures of prisons
• Maintaining a case load of offenders providing supportive counseling
• Interview offenders to gather and evaluate information concerning their past experience, training attitude, social environment, and mental capabilities
• Working with individuals from the community and other public and private programs on services that may be available for offenders
• Supervising various programs within the framework of policies and procedures
• Effectively communicate both orally and in writing

Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408 Salary Grade:

NC07

Qualifications:

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

To be considered for a Correctional Case Manager position, ALL applicants must:

• Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G.0302)
• Pass a criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening result
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
• Possess a valid driver's license

The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions.
