Qualifications- Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
- The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
- Must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.

SupervisesThe head coach advises, coordinates and supports staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
Job GoalTo instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success; and to demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment. To upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.
GeneralThe success of athletic programs strongly influences the community’s image. Public exposure creates significant responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance, but objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health must not be overridden. The position includes unusual aspects such as extended time, risk of injury, and due process predicaments. It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance to function.

- Establish fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff; design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of overall program.
- Train and inform staff, encourage professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance as per local clinic policy.
- Delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and at season’s end analyze staff effectiveness and evaluate all assistants.
- Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the athletic director or principal.
- Assist athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation, and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
- Assist in preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices; adhere to scheduled facility times; coordinate program with maintenance and school employees.
- Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
- Provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
- Advise athletic director and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes.
- Serve as a mentor to each athlete, promoting trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- Give constant attention to a student athlete’s grades and conduct.
- Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant during practices, games, and travel.
- Provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete.
- Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
- Complete paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submit within 24 hours.
- Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
- Determine discipline, delineate procedures concerning due process when enforcing discipline, and contact parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
- Assist athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
- Participate in budgeting function with athletic director by establishing requirements for next season; recommend equipment guidelines (type, style, color, technical specifications). Operate within budget appropriations.
