Position: Part Time Bus Driver (20hrs per week)

Starting Date: Immediately
Job Description Job Title: School Bus Driver
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt (Hourly)
Reports to: Principal or Designee
Terms of Employment: Part‑time, 20 hours per week
Job Summary: It is the responsibility of the school bus driver to operate the school bus in a safe and efficient manner and to abide by all state traffic laws, State Board of Education regulations and local school board regulations.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
- Possess a valid Class A or B commercial driver’s license with a "P" and "S" endorsement
- Meet vision and hearing requirements
- Have an acceptable driving record
- Must be insurable
- Must pass a background check and a pre‑employment drug screen
Essential Job Functions
Conduct a thorough pre‑trip (using the school's Daily Bus Inspection form) and post‑trip inspection of the school bus.Keep exterior mirrors clean and adjusted at all times.Perform a minimum of one school bus evacuation drill each school year utilizing appropriate emergency procedures per semester (documented in the checklist log).Know, recognize, and obey road signs and signals.Keep the interior of the bus clean.Maintain routes and schedules as planned by the local school board.Report any hazards along the existing route to appropriate school officials.Exercise effective defensive driving skills of self‑control, alertness, foresight and good judgment at all times while operating the school bus.Maintain discipline on the school bus without jeopardizing safety while driving.Complete all reports on bus discipline, bus maintenance and any other reports required by the school board.Remain alert at all times to hazards, including poor weather conditions, other vehicles, road conditions and trains at railroad crossings.Prohibit students from standing in the step well or loading area where they could fall out of the bus, or where the driver's view is obscured.Agree to one mandatory drug test as part of the hiring process, plus random post‑accident testing as required.Disclaimer
