The Motor Pool Department at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke has a need for part‑time Bus Drivers. These positions are especially suited for skilled workers in the operation of light and heavy buses. The driver will transport students, faculty and staff to and from various events, following a pre‑planned route and time schedule. Responsibilities include regulating heating equipment and ventilation for passenger comfort;
driving the bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations; assuming responsibility for the safety of passengers during loading, unloading, and transport; maintaining discipline and reporting unruly behavior to a supervisor; reporting delays and accidents; keeping operational records and making simple reports; reporting defects or problems with the vehicle to the shop supervisor; and refueling the vehicle during trips as necessary.
Bus drivers are on an as needed basis.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma or GED completion
- Valid NC Class B Driver’s License
- Demonstrated competencies necessary to perform the work, including appropriate licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment
- Clean driving record and completion of a performance test in bus operation
- Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and familiarity with precautions necessary to avoid an accident
- Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions; ability to relate to students, parents and school personnel
- Ability to complete various forms and records, including updated route sheets, time sheets, field trip forms, incident and accident reports
- Prior experience driving for the university
Successful completion of an employment background check, which includes a criminal background check, employment verification, reference checks, license verification (if applicable) and credit history check (if applicable).
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States required. Veterans claimants must submit DD‑214.
