Job Summary
Shift: Monday – Friday, 1 Saturday per month, 2:00 a.m. start time.
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load‑lift attachments depending on the line of business and the truck type. Drivers transport material to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility. Commercial drivers pick up containers filled with waste or recyclable material, often weighing in excess of 1,000 lbs, and maneuver wheeled containers to a pick‑up stage. They navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, with highly skilled backing maneuvers essential.
Residential drivers collect household waste or recyclable material, maneuvering safely in residential environments. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating tight overhead environments on industrial routes.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and document checks using the standard DVIR.
- Report unsafe situations or service‑related issues immediately to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required.
- Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, closed or impassable streets or alleyways, heavy receptacles, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled and assist other drivers to meet customer needs.
Required
- At least 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Class A CDL with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire, or Class B CDL with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire.
