The Receiving Clerk is responsible for all inbound dock operations within the distribution center, including manually unloading floor-loaded containers and freight, verifying and inspecting incoming product, processing purchase order receipts, and documenting discrepancies. This is a physically demanding, hands‑on role: a significant portion of the shift is spent moving freight by hand out of containers and trailers into the warehouse, with approximately 30% of the time spent operating either forklifts, powered pallet jacks, and other equipment to move and stage inbound material.

The Receiving Clerk ensures that all inbound freight is received accurately, recorded promptly, and staged for put‑away in compliance with company and carrier requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Unload inbound shipments, including parcel deliveries, LTL freight, and floor-loaded containers, by hand onto a flexible roller conveyor or using forklifts, powered pallet jacks, hand trucks, and dock equipment as appropriate.
  • Position, extend, and reposition the flexible roller conveyor by hand as the unload progresses, and set it up and stow it safely at the start and end of each container.
  • Hand-stack and palletise cartons at the end of the conveyor line, building stable, square loads for put‑away in accordance with company standards.
  • Inspect incoming goods for damage, quantity accuracy, and condition against purchase orders or advance shipping notices, and document and communicate discrepancies, shortages, or damage to the supervisor for resolution.
  • Note shortages, overages, or visible damage on carrier paperwork before signing, and retain documentation to support freight claims.
  • Process inbound receipts in the warehouse management system (Blue Cherry), updating inventory records and locations upon verification.
  • Stage received material in designated areas for put‑away by warehouse associates, and support put‑away and material moves as needed to keep the receiving dock clear.
  • Maintain inbound documentation, including packing slips, delivery receipts, and container paperwork, per company recordkeeping requirements.
  • Coordinate inbound dock scheduling, including carrier deliveries and container arrivals, with the supervisor and operations team, and communicate receipt status, delays, or carrier issues in real time.
  • Operate powered industrial equipment safely and in compliance with all certification and safety requirements; complete daily pre‑shift equipment inspections and document results per company policy.
  • Maintain the receiving area in a clean, organized, and safe condition at all times.
  • Follow all company safety, housekeeping, and documentation standards.
  • Support other warehouse functions as needed during high‑volume or seasonal periods.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of receiving, shipping, or dock operations experience required.
  • Valid forklift certification required; certification may be obtained onsite.
  • Experience using Blue Cherry WMS or other warehouse management systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of purchase orders, advance shipping notices, and carrier delivery documentation preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to verify quantities, documentation, and product condition accurately.
  • Solid organisational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively in a fast‑paced dock environment.
