INRAE Presentation
The National Institute of Research for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) is a public research institution that brings together a community of 12,000 people, with 272 research, service, and experimental units, located in 18 centers across France. INRAE is among the top global leaders in agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences. Its research aims to build solutions for multi-performance agriculture, quality food, and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.
WorkEnvironment, Missions, and Activities
Within CRESS U1125, the OPPaLE team dedicates its research to advancing knowledge and care in the field of maternal and child health, a domain marked by the deep interconnection between mothers, fathers, and children. The team adopts a holistic approach covering preconception, pregnancy, birth, childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood. The OPPaLE team's work relies on several long-term infrastructures, including confidential registries, surveys, platforms, cohorts, and large population studies, both national and international, integrating several thousand standardized data for tens of thousands of patients/women/children.
The reduction of animal product consumption is a major environmental, public health, and economic issue. However, highly plant-based diets can lead to certain nutritional deficiencies, as some essential nutrients are present only in small quantities in plants. In this context, the ANR Veg Pregnancy project aims to study the influence of plant-based diets during pregnancy on the health of the mother and child.
In the context of this project, the engineer will conduct analyses on the links between the level and quality of plant-based diets during pregnancy and the neurodevelopment of children in the EDEN, ELFE, and SEPAGES birth cohorts. This is a multidisciplinary project involving several academic partners from epidemiology, immunology, microbiota, epigenetics, nutrition, mental health, and respiratory health. The engineer will be in contact with the different partners but will be attached to the OPPaLE team.
