BOOKKEEPER at Residential Property Management Company

AMCS - North Charleston, SC

The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining the financial records for a portfolio of residential rental properties, including recording income and expenses, reconciling bank and operating accounts, processing invoices and payments, and assisting with monthly financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working with multiple properties and accounts, and understands the unique accounting needs of residential property management. Accuracy, confidentiality, follow-through, and strong attention to detail are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate books and financial records for multiple residential properties.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, trust, operating, and other financial accounts on a regular basis.
  • Process vendor invoices, bills, reimbursements, and property-related expenses.
  • Review transactions and code expenses accurately to the appropriate property and account.
  • Prepare monthly property-level financial reports.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end closing processes.
  • Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Communicate with property managers, vendors, and internal team members regarding accounting questions.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies, unusual transactions, and bookkeeping errors.
  • Maintain organized digital accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, audits, tax preparation, and other accounting projects as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and personal information.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience; property management experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with residential rental property accounting is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience managing books for multiple properties, entities, or bank accounts.
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as Real Page/One Site, Quick Books, App Folio, Buildium, Rent Manager, or similar platforms.
  • Strong Excel or spreadsheet skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring monthly deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in residential property management or real estate accounting.
  • Experience with property-level financial reporting.
  • Experience with month-end closing procedures.
