Job Description:

The Electrical Lab Technician is responsible for providing technical support within the engineering laboratory. This role involves a wide range of tasks, including setting up and maintaining test equipment, conducting basic electrical tests, assisting engineers with experiments, and ensuring a safe and organized lab environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lab Preparation and Maintenance:

  • Set up and configure electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, function generators, etc.

  • Calibrate and maintain lab equipment according to established procedures and schedules.

  • Ensure the lab is clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies.

  • Perform routine safety checks and inspections of lab equipment and work areas.

  • Test Procedures and Execution:

  • Assist engineers in the design and execution of electrical tests and experiments.

  • Conduct basic electrical measurements and tests, such as voltage, current, resistance, and continuity.

  • Record and document test data accurately and efficiently.

  • Troubleshoot basic electrical problems and identify potential issues.

  • Equipment and Component Handling:

  • Properly handle and store electronic components, including delicate and sensitive devices.

  • Assemble and disassemble electronic circuits and prototypes as directed.

  • Build and modify test fixtures and jigs as needed.

  • Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures in the lab environment.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

  • Report any safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor immediately.

  • Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of lab procedures and documentation.

  • Participate in training and professional development activities.

  • Contribute to the overall improvement of lab efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.

  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience as an Electrical Lab Technician or in a related field.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of basic electrical principles and circuits.

  • Proficiency in using common electrical test equipment.

  • Experience with soldering and basic electronics assembly.

  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and practices.

  • Other Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to learn new techniques and technologies quickly.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy equipment.

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions.

  • Ability to work with small parts and tools.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily works in a laboratory environment.

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels.

  • May be required to work occasional overtime.
