Estimator, Procurement / Purchasing
Amped Electric is seeking an experienced estimator who can translate drawings, specifications and field realities into accurate, competitive and buildable electrical estimates. You will stay engaged beyond bid day, partnering with operations, purchasing and field leadership to protect scope, forecast cost and drive profitable results.
This is more than a bid desk role. It's a clear path to build and lead Amped Electric's future estimating department, built around three priorities:
- Win the Right Work: Estimate with precision. Develop takeoffs, man-hour plans, material budgets, scopes, schedules of values and compelling proposals that sell both Amped Electric and the estimate.
- Protect Performance: Stay connected to execution. Review production, material usage, variances, RFIs, change orders and cost-to-complete forecasts so project teams can act early and protect margin.
- Build the Function: Create a scalable team. Standardize tools and processes, strengthen historical cost data, mentor future estimators and grow into leading a full department with direct reports.
- Lead conceptual, design-development and final-bid estimates for electrical construction projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, contracts and project manuals; identify conflicts, risk, exclusions, clarifications and scope gaps.
- Build labor and man-hour budgets by phase, system, area or cost code, along with material, equipment, subcontractor and general-condition budgets.
- Prepare proposal letters, scopes, alternates, bid summaries, qualifications, schedules of values and presentations.
- Provide value-engineering and constructability options that protect design intent, quality and margin.
- Support disciplined turnover from estimating to operations, clearly communicating assumptions, budgets and commercial strategy.
- Participate in production meetings to review labor performance, material usage to date, committed cost, current position and forecast to complete.
- Travel to preconstruction meetings and active jobsites to review field conditions, RFIs, scope impacts and change-order opportunities.
- Price and support change-order proposals; compare estimate-to-actual performance and explain material and labor variances.
- Manage submittal requirements, approved manufacturers, substitutions, long-lead equipment and specification-book adherence.
- Build trusted relationships with owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors; follow up consistently and confidently sell the company and the estimate.
- 10+ years of electrical estimating or related electrical construction experience.
- Electrical field experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with electrical estimating software, spreadsheets and construction technology.
- Strong knowledge of systems, installation methods, sequencing, labor productivity and material requirements.
- Highly organized, analytical and able to manage multiple estimates, priorities and deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication, disciplined follow-up and willingness to travel regionally.
This role is designed for a proven estimator who wants to become a builder of people, process and preconstruction capability, building the estimating department: a meaningful opportunity to shape the department, set standards and develop the team underneath you.
- Own the estimate: lead key pursuits, bid strategy, scope review, turnover and performance feedback.
- Standardize the process: create repeatable workflows for takeoff, bid review, cost history, forecasting, software and reporting.
- Build and lead the team: recruit, mentor and manage a full estimating team with direct reports as Amped Electric continues to grow.
Founded in 2018, Amped Electric has grown into a leading electrical contractor in the Charleston, SC market, with expansion into Myrtle Beach.
