purpose:the site safety specialist is responsible for supporting and enforcing the company’s safety program during our upcoming contract at boeing.
this position works directly with project management, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and craft personnel to identify hazards, implement effective controls, conduct inspections, and promote a strong safety culture. The site safety specialist will ensure work is performed in accordance with osha regulations, applicable federal/state/local requirements, airport rules and regulations, project specifications, and company safety policies.
the ideal candidate has hands-on field experience in heavy civil construction and understands the unique safety challenges associated with operating construction activities in and around active airport environments.
essential duties and responsibilities- conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and document findings, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
- monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with osha regulations, company policies, project safety plans, and airport-specific safety requirements.
- support implementation and enforcement of the project-specific safety and health plan.
- conduct and document daily/weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, pre-task planning, and job hazard analyses (jhas/jsa).
- identify unsafe conditions and work practices and immediately communicate corrective actions to supervisors and crews.
- assist project leadership in developing and implementing job hazard analyses, activity hazard analyses, and other task-specific safety plans.
- monitor high-risk activities including excavation and trenching, heavy equipment operations, paving, milling, concrete placement, crane and lifting operations, confined spaces, hot work, electrical work, work at heights, and traffic control.
- inspect excavations, trenches, shoring, access/egress, and protective systems as required.
- monitor proper use of personal protective equipment (ppe), fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, and other required controls.
- verify heavy equipment and vehicles are operated safely and that required inspections are completed.
- monitor backing operations, spotter use, haul roads, work-zone traffic control, and interactions between personnel and mobile equipment.
- support implementation of airport-specific safety procedures for work conducted on or adjacent to active runways, taxiways, aprons, and aircraft operating areas.
- monitor compliance with airport vehicle/operator requirements, airfield access procedures, escort requirements, radio/communication procedures, and designated haul routes.
- assist with foreign object debris (fod) prevention and control activities in active airfield construction areas.
- monitor construction activities for potential impacts to aircraft operations and coordinate safety concerns with project management and designated airport personnel.
- participate in incident, injury, near-miss, and property-damage investigations and assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, incident reports, and regulatory documentation.
- assist with osha recordkeeping and reporting requirements as applicable.
- conduct new-hire and project-specific safety orientations.
- coordinate or assist with required employee safety training and certifications.
- verify subcontractor compliance with project safety requirements and participate in subcontractor safety meetings and audits.
- track corrective actions and ensure deficiencies are addressed in a timely manner.
- participate in emergency response planning, drills, and incident response.
- maintain current knowledge of osha regulations, airport safety requirements, and industry best practices.
- promote a proactive safety culture in which employees are encouraged to identify and report hazards.
- perform other safety-related duties as assigned by the safety manager or project management.
- 5 years of safety experience in heavy civil, highway, airport, paving, utility, earthwork, or similar construction environments.
- strong working knowledge of osha construction standards.
- ability to read and understand project plans, specifications, safety plans, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- proficiency with microsoft office and electronic safety documentation systems preferred.
- must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy construction equipment.
- must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts when project schedules require.

- osha 30-hour construction
- first aid/cpr/aed
- competent person certifications/training applicable to excavation, scaffolding, fall protection, confined space, or other high-hazard activities
