The Department of Music at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Lecturer in Music – Saxophone within the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. This is a full-time, non‑tenure‑track, 9‑month position.
Primary duties include applied saxophone instruction across all concentrations in the music major, a weekly studio class, and teaching related coursework based on the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong command of the standard repertoire of the saxophone, jazz and/or commercial styles, and a commitment to high‑quality undergraduate teaching across a wide range of ability levels and interests.
Requirements- Master’s degree in Saxophone Performance or a closely related field
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching
- Terminal Degree in Saxophone Performance or a closely related field
- College or university‑level teaching experience
- An additional area of expertise that extends one’s influence such as jazz/commercial performance, multiple woodwind performance, or an academic teaching specialty
- Active engagement as a performer and educator
- Teaching applied saxophone lessons to Music Education, Performance, Commercial Music and Jazz, and General Studies undergraduate saxophone students
- Teaching a weekly saxophone studio class
- Coordinating/scheduling saxophone junior and senior recitals
- Attendance at saxophone recitals, juries, and barriers
- Contribute to a collaborative woodwind area and broader departmental initiatives
- Studio recruitment and retention
Additional duties may include community recruitment activities, ensemble coaching, and other assignments consistent with departmental needs and the candidate’s experience.

Required Qualifications
Must hold the appropriate terminal degree or meet the established alternative qualifications, and exhibit strong potential for excellence in teaching.
Teaches students in the classroom, laboratory, and/or studio.
Job DutiesPrepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid‑term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University‑related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
Performs other duties as assigned.
