JOB DESCRIPTION-MUSIC (CHORAL) TEACHER

Responsible for delivering high‑quality, standards‑based choral music instruction to students in grades 6-8. This educator develops musicianship, vocal technique, music literacy, and performance skills while fostering student creativity, collaboration, and appreciation for diverse musical traditions. The teacher supports school‑wide goals, participates in performances and assessments, and contributes to a positive school culture aligned with district and South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) expectations.

• Plan and deliver sequential, standards‑aligned choral music instruction based on the South Carolina College‑and‑Career‑Ready Arts Standards
• Teach healthy vocal technique, sight‑reading, music literacy, ensemble skills, and performance etiquette appropriate for middle school learners
• Rehearse and direct choral ensembles, including preparation for concerts, school events, adjudicated performances, and community engagements
• Select age‑appropriate, diverse choral repertoire that supports vocal development and cultural understanding
• Assess student learning using formative and summative assessments and maintain accurate academic records
• Integrate instructional technology, accompaniment skills (piano/keyboard), and instructional strategies to enhance music learning
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varied abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles
• Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to support student success
• Participate in professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and required professional development
• Support extracurricular or co‑curricular music activities as assigned (e.g., honor choir preparation, festivals, clinics)
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues in both written and verbal formats
• Model professional behavior, ethical conduct, and appropriate classroom management
• Maintain classroom and rehearsal spaces that are safe, organized, and conducive to learning
• Stand for extended periods during rehearsals and performances
• Conduct and lead ensembles using appropriate conducting techniques and gestures
• Hear and evaluate vocal pitch, tone quality, balance, and blend
• Lift and move light classroom equipment (music stands, folders, small instruments)
• Comply with all district policies, SCDE regulations, and educator code of conduct requirements
• Perform related duties as required

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Music Education or a related field.
• Hold a valid South Carolina teaching certificate or eligibility for certification in an appropriate field, such as:
  Music (P-12) or Middle Level Music (grades 5-8)
