The Boeing Company is actively seeking an experienced and highly skilled Associate, Mid‑Level, Senior Structural and Payloads Design Engineer to join our Interiors Integration Team. This role requires a professional rooted in strong project management competencies, capable of leading complex engineering efforts to support the certification and delivery readiness of the Boeing 787 aircraft.
In this position, you will develop, integrate, and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish robust system designs. You will lead the development, maintenance, and modification of structural and interior payload system and component designs using advanced 3‑D Computer Aided Design tools and other design methodologies. Your work will provide clear and comprehensive product definitions to engineering groups, production operations, suppliers, and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
You will take ownership of performance, integration, and analysis of tests to validate and verify that systems and components meet stringent requirements and specifications. Managing supplier development, test, and production activities will be a key responsibility, requiring close coordination with suppliers to optimize designs and achieve program goals.
Additionally, you will assist in investigating emerging technologies and developing innovative concepts for future product designs to meet evolving requirements. This role demands a proactive, cross‑functional collaborator who can effectively address and resolve complex issues while ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards. You will work under minimal direction, demonstrating leadership and technical expertise throughout.
Primary Responsibilities- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including electrical and systems engineering, to facilitate the certification and delivery readiness of the 787 aircraft.
- Utilize strong project management skills to oversee and coordinate design and manufacturing processes across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Apply engineering judgment to identify, analyze, and resolve design and integration challenges, particularly in electrical and systems engineering domains.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring clarity and alignment on project objectives and timelines.
- Demonstrate strong soft skills to foster teamwork and collaboration in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment.
- Influence issue resolution with a sense of urgency, ensuring timely delivery of solutions.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of design, manufacturing, electrical, and systems engineering processes to support decision‑making and problem‑solving efforts.
- Document and report on project progress, challenges, and resolutions to management and stakeholders.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
- Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully managing complex projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced and ambiguous environment, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a focus on delivering results.
- 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- Proven experience in design and manufacturing within the aerospace industry, with a focus on Mechanical, electrical, and/or systems engineering.
- Experience with the Boeing 787 or similar aircraft programs.
- Familiarity with certification processes and regulatory requirements in the aerospace industry.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools.
