Job Responsibilities
- Assists certified inspectors in accurately and efficiently sampling and field testing on projects per requirements.
- Assists certified inspectors with acquiring and submitting material samples and certifications to OMR for testing and review.
- Reviews sampling and testing requirements to ensure adequate samples and certifications have been obtained and logs are updated per SCDOT requirements.
- Reviews QPL to ensure correct materials are being used on site.
- Coordinates with QA team and District Asphalt Manager for any additional testing required.
- Acts as a Project Inspector on multiple construction projects, monitoring compliance with plans and specifications for state and federal projects.
- Studies and learns to interpret plans, contract documents, strip maps, specifications, standard drawings, permits, right‑of‑way documents, EEO documents, DBE requirements, etc., to ensure projects adhere to all requirements.
- Prepares, completes, logs, and records all required forms, reports, checklists, and spreadsheets associated with inspected work.
- Assists with inspections of various highway and bridge construction projects per Department requirements; performs routine inspections and reporting including work zone traffic control, erosion control, environmental, concrete, earthwork, base, asphalt, pavement preservation, structures, wage regulation, CUF, Stage Type, etc.; subject to applicable certifications.
- Maintains and enters accurate notes, calculations, stationing, quantities, and other pertinent information into SCDOT systems (AWP, Project Wise, etc.). Prepares daily diaries, weekly, monthly reports timely, records field changes, assists in creation of as‑built plans.
- Assists in surveying sites for quality control verification, operating surveying instruments.
- Investigates public complaints, requests, and damage claims; communicates with citizens, contractors, subcontractors, utilities, local officials; addresses complaints timely; coordinates with contractors on planned work; reports deficiencies; coordinates corrections; communicates with RCE on change orders.
- Provides assistance on 12‑hour shifts weekdays, weekends, holidays during inclement weather/emergency conditions. Submits timesheets and mileage reports accurately and timely. Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or approved equivalence.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
