We are looking for a talented Controls Engineer to join our team specializing in manufacturing for our Cummins’ business in Ladson, SC.
Responsibilities- Support the design and development of control systems by contributing to specifications, layout, and component selection for reliable performance.
- Assist in creating and executing bench tests to validate system functionality, identify issues early, and ensure compliance with design requirements.
- Modify and optimize software and equipment configurations to ensure sensors and actuators meet performance and accuracy standards.
- Troubleshoot and debug basic control system issues, supporting timely resolution of defects and implementation of change requests.
- Compile cost data, equipment needs, and technical inputs to support accurate cost estimates and appropriation requests.
- Analyze project requirements and investigate system challenges to develop practical, cost‑effective solutions aligned with operational and environmental considerations.
- Provide support for PLC‑based hardware and software installation, ensuring systems are implemented efficiently and operate as intended.
- Deliver technical support and documentation to improve system reliability, maintainability, and knowledge sharing across the engineering team.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively by building strong partnerships and tailoring clear, concise messaging to diverse stakeholders to drive alignment and shared outcomes.
- Apply controls engineering and automation expertise by leveraging knowledge of PLCs, machine programming, networking, and manufacturing systems to design, implement, and improve control solutions.
- Prioritize safety, security, and compliance by identifying hazards, embedding safe practices, and ensuring control systems are secure and meet health, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and analytical skills by resolving electrical/control issues, applying sensor and measurement technologies, and continuously improving processes through data‑driven decisions.
- College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. Basic level of relevant experience required.
- Lead Controls Engineering Projects Oversee design, implementation, and optimization of electrical control systems for manufacturing equipment, including hardware, software, safety devices, sensors, and actuators.
- Proficiency in Controls Hardware and Software Ability to design, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs, servo systems, pneumatic/hydraulic actuators, and safety circuits. Scripting knowledge is a must.
- Experience in Manufacturing Environment Hands‑on experience with production equipment and integration of controls systems in high‑volume manufacturing.
- Automation & Robotics:
Involved in CoBot deployments and IIoT dashboard initiatives for manufacturing efficiency.
