We’re seeking a dynamic Government Relations Specialist to play a pivotal role in shaping policies that advance and protect our Performance Materials and Pavement Technologies businesses. This position will help drive effective and efficient public policy outcomes by engaging with key stakeholders, monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, and supporting strategic advocacy efforts. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for ensuring Ingevity’s voice is heard in policy discussions that support our business priorities and long-term strategy.

you will impact Ingevity
  • In this position, you will play a pivotal role in the advancement of effective and efficient policies supporting our global Performance Materials and Pavement Technologies businesses.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on rapidly changing regulations and legislation, particularly in North America and Europe, impacting asphalt paving, batteries and energy storage, filtration, water treatment, and food and beverage purification.
  • Develop and establish clear and consistent policy briefings, position papers, presentations, talking points, and impact analyses on key regulatory and legislative issues and initiatives impacting the company at the international, federal, state, and local level.
  • Draft written comments, including regulatory and legislative amendment language.
  • Participate in industry trade associations and other external groups at the international, federal, state and/or local level to build relationships, identify policy priorities, and guide policy positions.
  • Evaluate current and emerging sustainability trends and regulations.
  • Identify economic development incentives, including grants and tax credits.
  • Utilize regulatory and legislative monitoring tools to develop advocacy reports and identify relevant advocacy opportunities or threats.
  • Conduct exploratory policy research to assess risks and develop policy-enabled growth strategies.
  • Partner with cross-functional company teams, including Business Units, Research and Development, Legal, and Communications, to formulate and implement successful legislative, regulatory, and community-based strategies.
What you need to succeed
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Degree in Environmental Science, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Public Policy or Political Science preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience required in regulatory or legislative affairs, including research and analysis of regulatory and legislative files and preparation of written comments, preferably in the energy, transportation or environmental sectors. Government relations and advocacy experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, including to international locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing priorities and deadlines and organize complex information, including experience prioritizing regulatory and legislative initiatives with respect to impacts on overall company objectives.
  • Proven record of outstanding interpersonal skills in facilitation of cooperative, collaborative alliances among a diverse set of business partners required. This could include prior experience participating and collaborating with trade…
