Atlas Tech, a veteran‑owned IT company serving multiple DoD customers in support of America’s warfighters, is looking for a Data Engineer – Observability in the Charleston, SC Area to support data engineering efforts for PMW
160 Tactical Networks. The engineer will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining the telemetry, logging, and tracing systems. If you are comfortable in intense fast paced environments, can think on your feet, and excel in team‑based collaborative efforts, then this may be the right fit for you.
- Implement monitoring, logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for data platforms and pipelines
- Develop dashboards, alerts, service objectives, and reporting
- Integrate data platform telemetry with observability tools such as Grafana, Elastic, Splunk, or Dynatrace
- Monitor data platform health, throughput, latency, failures, storage utilization, and service availability
- Troubleshoot complex data‑flow, application, infrastructure, and network issues across distributed systems
- Design, build, test, and maintain reliable batch and real‑time data pipelines
- Containerize observability services and supporting applications using Docker
- Deploy and operate data workloads using Kubernetes
- Develop and maintain configuration for ingress, reverse proxy, load balancing, and service routing components
- Automate platform deployment, configuration, testing, and operational procedures
- Develop data ingestion, transformation, enrichment, routing and delivery workflows
- Provide recommendations for observability best practices and process improvements
- Participate in architecture reviews, peer reviews, sprint planning, and technical design discussions
- Contribute to team objectives and support data engineering initiatives
- Prepare technical documentation and present architecture proposals to engineering teams
- Partner with other engineering groups to understand their data requirements and with leadership to align technical infrastructure with mission objectives
- 3-5 years' experience with observability technologies
- Experience with open-source monitoring and observability architectures such as Grafana LGTM+ Stack or Elastic (ELK) Stack
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with Kubernetes application packaging and deployment tools (Helm)
- Experience with high‑performance, open‑source networking infrastructure tools such as Nginx
- Working knowledge of Agile methodology and Dev Ops practices
- Strong documentation and communication skills to work effectively across technical teams
- Collaborative mindset with ability to work in fast‑paced environments
- Self‑motivated with strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years' experience in data engineering roles
- Experience with CI/CD tools (Git Lab CI, Azure Dev Ops)
- Proficiency with version control systems and collaborative development tools
- Experience with configuration management and automation platforms (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Terraform)
- Programming/scripting experience (JAVA, Python, Power Shell, Bash, Go)
- Experience with api design and documentation tools such as Swagger
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and serverless computing
