Eaton’s IS AER FMC division is seeking a CNC Grind Setup Machinist for the 3rd Shift at our North Charleston, SC facility. Relocation assistance will be provided.
The rate for this position is $24‑$29/hour plus a $2.50/hr shift differential. The shift runs from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
The position currently offers a $3,000 sign‑on bonus (before applicable withholding).
Responsibilities- Lead the transition/changeover between production runs on various CNC machines such as mills and lathes.
- Operate select machines through the remainder of the production run while ensuring quality parts from the work cell.
- Properly set tools in machine locations required for set‑up & perform part changeover including program retrieval and input.
- Establish work offsets (G54, G55, etc.) manually and utilizing probing technology.
- Read, understand, and reset CNC machine program codes.
- Calculate and input axis coordinates for CNC machines up to 3 axes; use spindle probe to determine work offsets.
- Utilize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing results to make adjustments to work offsets.
- Determine and run work offsets for 4‑axis single machines.
- Display advanced management of part‑specific tooling packages (1‑30 tools per process).
- Manage parts with less than 10‑50 part features.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience operating CNC grinders in a manufacturing or operations environment or an Associate’s degree or higher in a machining or manufacturing discipline.
- A minimum of one (1) year’s experience setting up CNC grinders.
- U.S. person status (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) as required for export‑controlled information.
- Technical degree in manufacturing, machining, or related field.
- Journeyman’s Toolmaker Certification.
- Experience with CNC or conversational programming.
- Experience operating a variety of manual machines (lathes, mills, jig borer, grinders, etc.).
- Familiar with Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing techniques such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, TPM, Error Proofing, Standardized Work, Set‑up Reduction, Continuous Flow, and Pull.
- Experience in troubleshooting problems using quality tools such as statistics, 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone diagrams, etc.
- PC computer skills (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, etc.) with ability to learn other programs.
- Ability to understand and interpret blueprints and sketches including proficiency in GD&T.
- Ability to perform basic shop math.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
