Job Description Summary
Summey OR platform consists of 4- OR suites and 2-minor procedure rooms which cover surgical specialties, to include; ENT, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Dental, Urology, Plastics, General Surgery and Endoscopy. Currently, all procedures done on-site serve the pediatric population, as well as some general adult services. The anesthesia staff on site consist of Anesthesiologists, CRNAs, CAAs and Anesthesia Residents. All surgery is performed on an outpatient basis.
The ambulatory surgery facilities are part of the MUSC Magnet designation, Joint Commission Accredited and upholds to the highest level of care possible.

Job Summary /PurposeThe Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist prepares prescribed solutions and administers anesthetic following specified methods and procedures. Informs physician of patient's condition during anesthesia. Performs pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits and documents anesthesia notes on patient records.
Minimum Training and EducationMust be a graduate of Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs approved programs of anesthesia, and certified, or recertified by the National Board on Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists, and insurable by the medical malpractice insurer of MUSC for the required limits. The minimum education requirement for those hired after March 1, 2019 is a master’s degree, or higher, with the concentration in Nurse Anesthesia.
Must demonstrate current competency in the clinical privileges extended. Must be proficient in the operation of anesthesia equipment. Current knowledge in anesthesia practice. Must exhibit basic knowledge of safety in a health care facility. Knowledge and practice of universal precautions in patient contact is required. Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with surgeons, residents, anesthesia personnel, and nursing staff.
Guidelines for practice are described in the departmental policy and procedure book. CRNAs practice under the clinical supervision of the anesthesiologist and the administrative supervision of the CRNA manager.
Must be recognized as an APRN, or eligible, with current license to practice, or eligible to obtain practice in the state of South Carolina. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA), BLS for Healthcare Providers.
