Job Description Summary
This Nurse Manager position provides operational and clinical leadership for the perioperative teams at Summey Medical Pavilion. The role oversees daily operations for the Operating Room (4 main ORs and 2 Minor ORs) and the Pre-Op team, supporting a primarily pediatric patient population with expanding adult surgical services.
The Nurse Manager is responsible for managing one or more functional areas within the perioperative department and directly supervises professional and support staff, including subordinate supervisors. This role carries hiring, disciplinary, and promotion authority and is accountable for staff performance, engagement, and development.
The position evaluates and improves departmental processes while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and applicable laws. With greater operational discretion and financial responsibility than entry-level management roles, the Nurse Manager leads initiatives, strategic priorities, and programs that have a direct impact on organizational outcomes.
Working both independently and in collaboration with perioperative nurse director and executive leadership, the Nurse Manager supports budget development, resource management, and achievement of key operational goals. This role plans, organizes, facilitates, monitors, and evaluates departmental activities to align with employee and organizational objectives, while partnering with leaders to establish operating procedures, enhance clinical and non-clinical workflows, improve productivity, and drive quality, safety, and operational efficiency across perioperative care settings.

Job Summary/Purpose
:
Assesses, plans, coordinates, and evaluates the clinical and operational functions of a nursing unit to ensure quality, cost effective health care is provided by an educated and competent team. Promotes a safe environment and performs all related job responsibilities in a safe manner. Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the age, developmental stages, and special needs of the patients served.
Minimum Training and
Education:
Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) and currently enrolled in master's program from an accredited college/university. A minimum of five (5) years of nursing work experience required (three years of nursing experience and two years of supervisory experience).
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or compact state required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
