Position: Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) – Children’s Ambulatory Center

Overview

Summary Medical Pavilion OR platform consists of 4 OR suites and 2 minor procedure rooms covering surgical specialties, including ENT, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Dental, Urology, Plastics, General Surgery and Endoscopy. All procedures are performed on-site for the pediatric population up to age 18, as well as some women’s services. The anesthesia staff on site includes MDAs, CRNAs, AAs and Anesthesia Residents. All surgeries are outpatient.

The ambulatory surgery facilities are part of the MUSC Magnet designation and Joint Commission Accredited, upholding the highest level of pediatric care possible.

Responsibilities
  • The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) prepares prescribed solutions and administers anesthetic following specified methods and procedures.
  • The CRNA informs the physician of the patient s condition during anesthesia and performs pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits with documentation of anesthesia notes in patient records.
  • Provide anesthesia care to a wide variety of patients from pre-term neonates to geriatrics. Administers appropriate anesthetics in consultation with the attending anesthesiologist in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Familiar with the use of anesthesia machines and related equipment, assists in patient transport, maintains adequate patient records, participates in department teaching activities and continuing education programs, and demonstrates professionalism in duty performance.
  • Provides resuscitative care as indicated.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Training and Education
    :
    Must be a graduate of a Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs approved program and certified, or recertified by the National Board on Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists; must be insurable by MUSC s malpractice insurer. For hires after March 1, 2019, a master s degree or higher with a concentration in Nurse Anesthesia is required.
  • Must demonstrate current competency in clinical privileges, be proficient in operating anesthesia equipment, and possess current knowledge in anesthesia practice.
  • Must have basic knowledge of safety in a health care facility and knowledge and practice of universal precautions. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with surgeons, residents, anesthesia personnel, and nursing staff. CRNAs practice under the clinical supervision of the anesthesiologist and administrative supervision of the CRNA manager.
Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
  • Must be recognized as an APRN, or eligible, with current license to practice or eligible to obtain practice in the State of South Carolina.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work indoors/outdoors in temperature extremes, and work from elevated or confined spaces as described.
  • Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions, bend, twist, squat, pinch, and perform fine and gross motor movements with hands and fingers.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted; lift lower objects from floor to 36 inches and lift to overhead up to 25 lbs; exert up to 50 lbs of force as needed.
  • Visual requirements include 20/40 vision (corrected) and color perception; good peripheral vision and ability to maintain hearing acuity.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required, and to work in a latex-safe environment; maintain tactile sensory functions.
